 Margaret has served as Executive Director/CEO of Pro-Literacy Detroit since March 2001. Pro-Literacy Detroit, founded 34 years ago, provides free literacy tutorial services for adults, using trained volunteer tutors. Pro-Literacy Detroit has assisted over 11,000 adult students and trained more than 9000 volunteer tutors. In the city of Detroit, an estimated 90,000 adults lack a high school diploma or GED, which makes the work of Pro-Literacy Detroit and those of other Literacy Centers so critical to ensuring that everyone is prepared to take advantage of the new opportunities that exist in Metro Detroit. I am an author and agronomist who is passionate about fighting discrimination as well as hunger and malnutrition. I direct the African Chapter of the Rotarian Fellowship of Corporate Social Responsibility, and under this banner founded the social enterprise Sevana, an anti discrimination project which uses art work (including the book I authored) as an anti discrimination tool, and the proceeds of art work to to fight hunger and malnutrition with a focus on the victims of discrimination.
