Achievements and influences
Irene Makar has 25+ years of experience in executive roles in multiple sectors, as well as start-up ownership, investment, and commercialization from product concept to scale-up and to market.
Her work in business, academia, and consulting spans several sectors across Canada and Internationally that includes expert advisory roles to the European Commission, ISO, and Canada’s Prime Minister's office.
Alongside earning a living, her life-long goal was to accomplish a research-degree every ten years – currently holding 4 degrees, two in "science and technology and innovation" policy (STI).
For the most part, Irene has been brought into organizations and into international research projects, because of her problem solving, organizational and research skills.
Previous International Organization Standards experience in the aerospace industry led to ISO voting countries electing Irene, to convene the technical committee tasked with the development of standards, to assist the implementation of innovation management systems.
Regular consulting work is mostly with technology start-ups. Irene has extensive non-profit board and committee experience, holding Chair and Board Executive positions in Canada and internationally.
