A Journey Worth Taking
Traveling nearly 10,000 kilometers from India, Bangalore to Tamale, Ghana, our team kicked off this effort with a truly gratifying day on March 20, 2025. On the first day alone, we operated on nine children, ranging from 4 months to 15 years old, performing 12 eye surgeries. Three of these young patients received life-changing bilateral procedures. By Friday, March 21, we concluded our work in Ghana with a total of 28 children’s eye surgeries—an extraordinary feat made possible by your unwavering commitment.
From there, our efforts shifted to Nigeria, where the impact deepened even further. Throughout this project, we completed 26 children’s eye surgeries and 42 adult surgeries, addressing a range of conditions with state-of-the-art care. All went well, and the results speak for themselves.
Restoring Vision, Renewing Lives
In both Ghana and Nigeria, our skilled teams tackled a variety of eye conditions:
- Congenital and Traumatic Cataracts: The majority of surgeries involved cataract aspiration, followed by the implantation of best-in-class foldable intraocular lenses (IOLs), primary posterior capsulotomy, and anterior vitrectomy. These procedures gave children and adults a chance to see the world clearly—many for the first time.
- Squints: Correcting misaligned eyes to improve vision and confidence.
- Droopy Lids: Lifting spirits by addressing ptosis.
- Tear Sac Blocks: Relieving discomfort and preventing infections.
- Pterygiums (Nigeria Adults): Removing these growths to restore comfort and sight.
In Nigeria alone, 68 individuals—26 children and 42 adults—received this gift of sight. These are people who might never have seen the light of day without your tremendous support.
A Shared Joy
The smiles of a 4-month-old seeing their parents’ faces, the relief of an adult freed from cataracts, the hope in every family’s eyes—these moments are the heartbeat of our work. Accompanying this story are a few images capturing the joy of these deeds. We sincerely hope you share the same pride and happiness we feel in witnessing these transformations.
