The Rotary Action Group for Community and Economic Development (RAGCED) is a global network of Rotary members, non-Rotarian professionals, and partners committed to advancing sustainable economic growth and improving livelihoods worldwide.
Operating under Rotary International, RAGCED supports clubs and districts in planning, implementing, and evaluating projects that foster entrepreneurship, create jobs, and build resilient local economies.
Empowering Communities Through Economic Growth
RAGCED’s mission aligns with one of Rotary’s seven Areas of Focus — Growing Local Economies. The group empowers communities to move from dependence to self-reliance by providing tools, training, and best practices in areas such as microfinance, village savings groups, business coaching, vocational education and training (including IT and AI education), social enterprise development, and market access.
By linking local initiatives with global expertise, RAGCED ensures development efforts are inclusive, culturally appropriate, and sustainable. The core approach focuses on creating income and employment opportunities, particularly for the poor, rather than solely providing charitable funds. Beneficiaries gain the skills and confidence to address their own challenges and build long-term resilience.
Collaboration and Innovative Solutions
A key strength of RAGCED is its collaborative approach. The group connects Rotary clubs with experts, organizations, and funding sources to amplify project impact. Through mentorship, networking, and knowledge sharing, RAGCED promotes innovative models that encourage long-term community ownership and empowerment.
Examples of successful initiatives include supporting small-scale farmers, training youth and women in business skills, and establishing community cooperatives. Notably, RAGCED has partnered with Engineers in Action (EIA) to build footbridges connecting communities separated by deep rivers and gorges — a vital step in fostering local economic growth.
RAGCED is also collaborating with the Project Management Institute (PMI) to expand membership among new RAGCED and Rotary participants worldwide. Efforts are underway to establish a European RAGCED group, further extending the network’s reach and impact.
Membership and Engagement
We encourage you to share RAGCED membership opportunities within your networks. Membership is open to Rotarians, non-Rotarians, and Rotaractors interested in economic and community development. Members gain access to a global platform of expertise and resources dedicated to reducing poverty and creating opportunity.
In Essence
RAGCED exemplifies Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self by transforming communities through sustainable economic growth. Its work strengthens local economies while promoting dignity, hope, and stability for people around the world.
