Project Description: The project creates goat farms for communities in the Obalanga Sub-county.  A household, through its farmer group,  receives a goat that will create a number of goats for reproduction, milk, meat, and other products.  The first offspring is then sent to another family for a similar cycle.  Other offspring create the backbone of the family's goat farm.  Effective and efficient breeding of the goats is achieved by providing a water source, shelters for the goats, and a livestock expert who provides training.  A committee manages the facilities and the goat sharing.  It also collects a user fee for maintaining the water source and common facilities.
 
The project:
  • Generates income and creates employment opportunities.
  • Provides the people of this area with access to quality goat meat in their diets and a market for their goat products.
  • Creates breeding cells from which the farmers can get improved breeds of kids.
  • Creates sites of observation for young entrepreneurs, especially girl children and youth who are still attending school.
  • Provides accessible portable water to the communities
  • garden and water their animals.
  • Teaches local farmers how to use local materials to build goat sheds using materials provided by the project
 
Project Budget: $129,000 USD

Project Description:
The objective of this project is to develop and support entrepreneurs in low-income and underserved areas of the San Jacinto Valley.   By closing the financial inclusion gap and nurturing entrepreneurship, the project will drive economic growth in the San Jacinto Valley.  The result will be entrepreneurs who will enhance their living standards, create job opportunities and establish successful and sustainable businesses that contribute to the overall well-being of the community.
 
The project includes:
  • Business Education provides entrepreneurs with the knowledge and plans needed to create a successful, sustainable business.
  • Microloans ensure a reliable source of funds that are needed to create a successful and sustainable business.
  • Mentors who advise and support the entrepreneur and help transition the business from plan to reality.
  • Networking to create awareness and partnerships that help the business grow in current and new markets.
  
 
The project also includes outreach to inform the community about entrepreneurship opportunities and evaluation to tell the community the impact on entrepreneurs, families, and the economic health of the community itself.
 
The project expects to create 25 businesses with an average loan of $10,000.  At the completion of the project, the revolving loan fund will continue to serve the community.

Indirect Beneficiaries:  150 indirect beneficiaries plus a 9 to 1 return on investment to the benefit of the community

SWEATERS/JACKETS FOR CHILDREN IN PERU

Project Description: The objective of this project is to protect 4,400 students from cold weather during the school year to keep them attending school during the winter.
Winter temperatures in the Southern Hemisphere at elevated altitudes in the Andes Region can prevent young children from attending school.  The project supports parents who cannot afford to keep their children at home and avoid them becoming ill because of the low temperatures and rain during wintertime.  The project is sustainable because the parents themselves can take care of the jackets by washing and repairing any damages.
 
Project Budget: $33,000 USD
Direct Beneficiaries: 4,400 direct beneficiaries
Indirect Beneficiaries: Parents and family members who cannot keep their children at home
 

Better Life for Women & Girls in Egypt

Project Objectives: Empower Women & Girls Economically & Socially and provide them with financial and non-financial services with the aim of availing decent life and better future to them, especially for the marginalized groups.
 
Area of Focus: Economic & Community Development
 
Community Need: The project will be implemented in El Khanka district in Qaliobia Governorate in Greater Cairo. It is an area of 7 kilometers and contains around 70,000 people (more than 50% are women). It is considered one of the remote, poor areas in Egypt. It has an illiteracy rate of 29% for citizens above 15 years old. It is specialized in handicrafts, pesticide production, and food production.

Direct and Indirect  Beneficiaries: 200 ladies & girls between the age of 18-50 receiving loans to conduct Micro Finance projects during the 5 years project duration (revolving funds) will result in benefiting around 1000 indirect people as family members of the direct borrowers. in addition to availing products to the whole area's citizens.
 
Sustainability: The project will be monitored by the implementing agency partnering with RC Cairo Royal. And the women receiving the financial and training on how to conduct their projects will have a better living standard and will have the capacity to train other micro-entrepreneurs and recruit more people in their businesses. So the project will have an impact on job creation and human development.
 
Partners: Arab Women Association ( a very experienced Association that as a track record of conducting Economic and Community Development projects since 1987, also has a consultancy post with the UNDP Community Development Association. The Association will contribute by providing training on how to manage your project to the beneficiaries.

Girls Empowerment Program in Nyamphande Chiefdom, Petauke District Eastern Province Zambia

Project Description:
The objective of this project is to equip secondary school learners with information on career choices and to reduce the underdevelopment of the community and the district at large because of the information gap in career choices that learners can make. Furthermore, through sex education the project will endeavor to reduce teenage pregnancies, the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, and increased school dropouts by female learners.
 
The project includes:
  1. Equip learners with improved career choices, entrepreneur skills, and personal development.
  2. Fostering the advancement of young girls and boys to make positive life choices and maximize their potential.
  3. Reduced unplanned pregnancies.
  4. Foster the participation of parents in the community, by including education on cultural change and understanding. 
The project will include:
 
  1. Quarterly Careers workshops at primary and secondary schools in the chiefdom
  2. Monthly training on sex education in the primary and secondary schools
  3. Monitoring and evaluation exercises with parents and teachers on a monthly basis
The project expects to see an improvement of 25% in the number of girls graduating from secondary school and starting tertiary education within the province or within the country. Through the involvement of policymakers an improvement in some teaching materials and curricula.

Completion of the Construction of the Computer and Science Lab at Muyooma Primary School, Lusaka Zambia

Area of Focus:  Basic education and Literacy
 
Project Brief: The completion of the construction and kit out of the Science and Computer 1*2 classroom block at Muyooma Basic School situated in Chilenje Community, Lusaka Zambia. The school caters to over 1000 learners from Primary grade 1 to junior secondary grade 9. The curriculum requires that learners are taught science and ICT practically but because the school does not have these facilities the school management is forced to improvise with the use of homemade science equipment and encourage the sharing of 20 obsolete computers among 500 students.
 
The project includes:
 
  1. Construction of a 2*1 classroom block that will house the science and computer labs.
  2. Improve ICT skills in the learners who in turn can use those skills to charge for program development etc
  3. Encourage the girl child to take a keen interest in science and improve the performance of learners in science-based subjects in senior secondary schools.
 
 
The project will include
 
  1. Completion of the Classroom Block
  2. Kit out of the Science and Computer labs
  3. Monitoring and evaluation through the PTA and School Management
 
The project expects to see an improvement of 10% over a 12-month period in the number of learners with improved results in science and computers. Sustainability of the ICT program at the school and its extension to the wider community at a fee to potential users.

Rotary Children Community Recreation Park

Objectives:
1. Construct 1 Nos 6-compartment toilet to provide sanitation and
hygiene for the project
2. Construct a 1 Nos motorized borehole with a 4,000-liter overhead tank, limited reticulation connection to toilets, and to ultimately provide adequate water supply to the Adult and children pack, health center, and other components of the complex.

The project is a multifaceted complex with Health Centre, Halls for meetings and Officers, and an Adult and Children's playground. There is presently no relaxation park for adults and children in the whole of Umuahia, the State Capital.

Four programs of microcredits for single mothers or with no income of emigrant and host mothers concentrated in four areas of underserved shanty towns in Lima Peru.

SUSTAINABILITY:
Monthly follow-up meetings with the Group to exchange experiences, would improve their operations and with the help of business Rotarians would achieve market growth. A similar experience under my leadership done in Caracas (Venezuela) with 1,700 Microloans for Single Mothers done during 7 years in 12 very low-income areas, produced these results.
