May is Youth Service Month in the Rotary calendar—a time when we celebrate and amplify the incredible potential of young people around the world. Rotary has long supported youth through initiatives like scholarships and youth exchange programs. But perhaps today, the most impactful way we can serve young people is by taking bold action on one of their greatest concerns: climate change.

A global study by Bath University, conducted in collaboration with five other universities across ten countries, revealed a striking reality: 60% of young people are worried or very worried about climate change. Nearly half say their daily lives are affected by climate anxiety, and three-quarters describe the future as “frightening.” More than half (56%) believe humanity is doomed. Many report feeling afraid, sad, anxious, angry, and hopeless—but also determined and hopeful.

As one 16-year-old powerfully stated, “It’s different for young people—for us, the destruction of the planet is personal.”

As Rotarians, we are committed to creating hope and making a difference. That’s why addressing climate change isn’t just a moral imperative—it’s a generational one. And it's exactly what RAGCED is focused on.

An Invitation to Act

Next month, Rotarians from around the globe will gather at the Rotary International Convention in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Whether you’re attending in person or joining virtually, there is an exciting opportunity you won't want to miss:

📅 Friday, June 20th (the day before the Convention begins)
📍 RAGCED & ESRAG Joint Seminar: Building Sustainable, Impactful Projects

This full-day event, co-hosted by RAGCED and ESRAG (the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group), will explore how we can elevate our projects to be more sustainable, strategic, and effective, especially in addressing climate and economic challenges.

You don’t have to be in Calgary to take part. The virtual option makes it possible for Rotarians everywhere to join the conversation.

Here are just a few compelling reasons:

  1. Hear from Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick, who will share her vision for impactful, sustainable projects that make a lasting difference.

  2. Gain insights from David Miller, economist and former Mayor of Toronto, now leading a global organization focused on empowering local governments to fight climate change.

  3. Participate in expert-led panels and sessions on:

    • Designing effective community projects

    • Identifying the right partners

    • Securing funding for your initiatives

Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to enhance your club’s current projects, this seminar will provide actionable tools and ideas.
